The Logan trailer #2

The good people at 20th Century Fox have released the second trailer for their upcoming release of Hugh Jackman’s final turn playing Wolverine in Logan.   The first trailer gave us a look at the dystopic futuristic world that Professor X and Wolverine were left in, set to Johnny Cash’s haunting rendition of “Hurt”.

This trailer gives a better look at the story as a whole.  Logan and the Professor have to travel cross country to protect a young girl who has powers much like Logan’s (one must assume that she can only be X-23).  The trailer does a good job of showing what the overall feeling of the film is going to be.  You can view the trailer below, but a warning:  THIS IS A RED BAND TRAILER, SO THERE IS LANGUAGE!  Enjoy.

The Nintendo Switch Fully Unveiled

The incredible people at Nintendo have released a whole wealth of information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch.  We now know that the release date will be on March 3rd and will retail for $300 US dollars and they will have a wealth of titles at launch.  They also have released the specs on the system as well:  “Nintendo estimates you’ll get between 2.5 and 6.5 hours of battery life at a go. “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be played for roughly three hours on a single charge,” says the company. That might not sound like a lot, but you can use a standard USB Type-C phone charger cable to keep it topped up — or just slot it into the dock at home.”

They also went on to describe the power of the system, saying “Nvidia says the Switch uses a custom Tegra processor. Nvidia Tegra processors have previously powered Nvidia’s Shield gaming tablets and other mobile devices, but Nvidia promises this processor is “based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards,” adding a revamped physics engine and other tools. Nvidia’s Tegra processor might sound like it’ll be less powerful than a full “normal” console, but it’s hard to tell how advanced the Switch will truly be.”

They also went on to say “Games should instantly switch, and play in either mode. On the TV screen, the Switch can output a 1080p (1,920×1,080-pixel resolution) image, even though its internal screen is 1,280×720-pixel resolution.”  So it seems as if the system should run most games quite smoothly.

We also got our first up close look at the new controllers that are attached to the system.  Pictured below:

Nintendo has also shown us what will be included with the Switch when it wis bought which you can see below.

Finally, Nintendo gave us a wealth of trailers yesterday, the most important of which are Super Mario Odyssey which looks unlike any previous Super Mario game, and amazing at the same time.  Of course, Nintendo also released a breathtaking trailer for The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild.  You can view the trailers below:

Cars 3 trailer 2

Disney has released a longer trailer for the their upcoming third entry in their Cars trilogy.  This story seems to mark a departure from the lighter-hearted previous entries by making this a comeback story for Lightning McQueen and gone are hints of humor from this trailer (although I am sure they will appear in later version).  This looks to be a marked improvement from their last entry.  View for yourself below:

Alien: Covenant

A couple days ago the people at 20th Century Fox released the trailer for their sequel   Prometheus/ prequel to Alien, Alien:Covenant.  Judging by the trailer, the film has abandoned their fantastical, attempt at thought-provoking tone, and gotten back to its original horror tone, which for many will be a welcome change.  After all Prometheus was a film with a lot of promise that never quite materialized.

The trailer gives us our first look at Michael Fassbender who returns from the first film.  More importantly though , we get our first look at the Xenomorphs, who look fantastic as remembered.  It looks like this will be much improved from Prometheus.  View for yourself below:

Good night, sweet princess

carrieI was born in 1977, the same year that Star Wars was released; legend has it that I first saw it when I was three months old.  I guess you could say that from the very beginning Carrie Fisher shaped what my idea of a woman should be: fearless, strong, independent, but capable of great caring and love.  Maybe that is why her death today hits me so hard, because for so many of us who grew up with Star Wars, her portrayal of Leia was the ideal standard of the strong woman.  Not to mention the fact that she awoke parts of some of us that were previously dormant when she appeared in the gold bikini in The Return of the Jedi.

Of course she was my first crush, that dark hair, smoldering eyes and raspy voice that conveyed that this was not a woman to be toyed with.  My heart still fluttered a bit when she first appeared onscreen in The Force Awakens.  I remembered the thrill I would get just hearing that she was appearing in any film.  Hell, the entire reason I saw The Burbs was to catch a glimpse of her.

But as many talented people do, she had her demons; she struggled with addiction and mental health issues.  Issues she seemed to overcome then speak out about later on in her life.  From the interviews I saw with her, she had a razor sharp wit, but was always engaging and intriguing.  She seemed like the type of person one would have a great conversation with over coffee.

But alas she is gone, one with the force now if you will.  The world is a bit darker of a place now, and my watching of the original trilogy shall forever be changed.  Carrie, the world loved you, I can only hope somewhere you are whispering “I know”.
