The 5 oddly beautiful women of television and film

Now we all know the traditionally beautiful women on television and film (i.e. Angelina Jolie, Zoe Saldana, Anne Hathaway). But what about those women who are not conventionally “beautiful” (and I mean this in the most respectful way), but have such an unusual look that it becomes beautiful? Well, I have compiled a list of five of those women for your viewing pleasure.

5 Joan Cusack

So what is it that makes Joan Cusack do damned cute? Is it the quirky facial expressions? Is it your wonderful voice? Or is it just the fact that you look like such a sweetheart. Either way, you melt my heart. Whether you are in School of Rock, Law and Order:SVU, or my personal favorite Grosse Pointe Blank, you have a certain quirky cuteness to you.

4 Flo (from the Progressive commercials)

Not sure about what makes her oddly hot, maybe it’s the retro hair, the smile or that quirky attitude, but whatever it is, it’s working for her. She has that charismatic attitude that makes me want to change my insurance.

3 Alyson Hannigan

Unlike many of you who fell for this one when she first appeared in American Pie discussing her memories at band camp, I first fell for this “dorky” cutie when she appeared in a little known film called My Stepmother is an Alien (it’s ok, I was her age at the time). Alyson is the definition of that slightly nerdy and sexy mix. Her red hair definitely does not hurt her either.

2 Maya Rudolph

She has the ability to sing, she has the ability to make us laugh, what isn’t attractive about this lady? Plus, she has that sexy, sexy sense of humor that takes her up to that next level. Not to mention, she is the product of a mixed race relationship, it seems as she got the best attributes of both sides.

1 Zooey Deschannel

Now I know that this entry will cause some controversy because many will argue that Zooey is beautiful in the traditional sense of the word. But what sets Zooey apart from the traditional definition of “beautiful” that we have been using is the fact that much of her attractiveness comes from her perceived quirkiness. Never has there been a cuter ukulele player in the history of popular culture.

Honorable Mentions go to Uma Thurman and Vera Farmiga. Anyone else I left off the list?

An Aquaman has been named…

According to several different sources, it seems as if Khal Drogo himself, Jason Momoa has been signed to play Aquaman in the upcoming Batman v Superman film, and of course the upcoming Justice League film. It seems as though the damage done to Metropolis will draw the attention of the Dark Knight, and the damage done to the Indian Ocean by the World Engine will draw the attention of Aquaman. It seems as though Aquaman’s role in Batman v Superman will be quite small, but lead to a much larger role in Justice League. D.C. continues to blaze full speed ahead with their plans; one might be curious about whether they are trying to jam too much into the upcoming Batman v Superman. Time will only tell. You can read more about it here.

Mario Maker

All I can say about this is that the creative possibilities of this game are freaking awesome. Nintendo, who seems to be having an amazing E3 unveiled another interesting use of their Wii-U with Mario Maker, a game that allows you the ability to edit Super Mario levels to whatever your heart’s desire. I’ll let their video speak for itself. Have fun.

Warner Bros looks quite prepared to take on Marvel

According to Niiki Finke at her newly launched website you can see here, the people at the good ole WB are extremely prepared to move forward with their Justice League plans. Apparently, they no longer want to sit and watch Marvel dominate the movie scene. According to what was written, which was also backed up by Garth Franklin on the greatest movie website in the world DarkHorizons, we will see Batman v Superman on May 6, 2016, and also Sandman film in 2016. There will not only be a Justice League film in 2017, but also a standalone Wonder Woman movie, and a Flash and Green Lantern film. Then in 2018 we will see a direct sequel tone of my favorite superhero films, Man of Steel.

The interesting fact is that that in some way Flash, Green Lantern, and Cyborg along with the already announced Wonder Woman will all be introduced in some manner in the upcoming Batman v Superman. My guess is that they will be presented in some form of cameo appearance(outside of Wonder Woman), but I guess that seems irrelevant. The fact is that finally we are going to be seeing some of these characters finally approach the big screen in the way that they probably should be shown, and this is enough to raise my expectations. As much as I love The Avengers, there is something that speaks more to my heart about Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the other members of the Justice League. Perhaps it’s because, the aforementioned three had movies/tv shows before it became cool. Maybe it was the fact that I had seen incarnations of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman on live action television, and then saw Superman and Batman in film before any character in Marvel had a film biased me in some way. Time will be the lonely arbiter in terms of judging who will be better, but my thoughts follow the quote on Fox Mulder’s poster which once read “I Want to Believe”. I want to believe that D.C. will finally be given its due respect.

Zelda has returned… finally

Let me take you back to 1986 or so when a game was advertised that I just had to have. It was called The Legend of Zelda, and it would be a game that changed my life. It was one of the first open world role playing type games and because of that, we can forgive the nerdy rap attempt Nintendo made to try and promote it seen here:

As time went on so did my love affair with the Zelda franchise, culminating with the ultimate in the Zelda experience: The Ocarina of Time. Granted, The Wind Waker,
Twlight Princess, and of course A Link to the Past came in a close second, but none I think were as great as Ocarina of Time. But once again, I find myself in digression. As of late we have seen the reemergence of the Wii-U with the release of Mario Kart 8 (an amazing game by the way) and now as of this week, the teaser for the new Zelda has emerged from E3. Finally, Nintendo has begun to move forward with what I thought they were capable of with the Wii-U. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the new Zelda.
