There will be a Han Solo origin movie

It was announced today that the two men responsible for writing and directing The Lego Movie (One of the most savvy movies written in recent history) will be helming another one of the Star Wars standalone films, this one will be about the origin of arguably the most popular character in the Star Wars universe, Han Solo. What will be interesting is to see if they will include the recently announced wife of Han Solo, Sana Solo, in said story. You can see the story of Han’s first wife here. Either way, it’s a smart move. Most Star Wars fans want to know the origin story of three characters within the universe: Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Yoda. The movie is scheduled for release in 2018. One down, two to go…

The Future of Total War

Total War: Warhammer will meld the tabletop fantasy game of Warhammer with the large-scale battles of the Total War gaming franchise. Since the announcement of the game and the trailer that accompanied it, the question that has been asked over and over again is “Can Warhammer make the transition from a tabletop game to videogame?” Some critics fail to realize that this transition has already been done with varied success with games such as Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and Warhammer: Battle March.

The real question that people should be asking about this new endeavor of the Total War series should be “Can the fantasy elements from Warhammer be put into the Total War game?” Total war games have always been strategic historical games from Shogun: Total War up until the latest historical addition to the franchise Total War: Attila. As of yet, there is no set release date for Total War: Warhammer except for an estimated time late this year. Inevitably, there will be more and more gameplay videos and hopefully answers to the fans’ questions about this newest Total War game.

The events after The Return of the Jedi revealed.

One of the more positive things that has emerged from Disney’s takeover of Lucasfilm is the establishment of an official cannon of the Star Wars universe. Between comic books, novels, television and films, an official storyline is taking place. I have already written about the first clue we had when they announced the releasing of the novel, Star Wars: Aftermath. The comic “Star Wars: Shattered Empire” will be in stores in September and will offer readers their first glimpse into what happened immediately following the death of Emperor Palpatine and the destruction of the second Death Star. Here is a brief excerpt of what you can expect:

Emperor Palpatine’s twenty-year reign of terror came to an abrupt and fiery end in the skies above the forest moon of Endor. A decisive victory for the Rebel Alliance, to be sure, but even with the loss of its leadership, the Empire’s Moffs and regional governors retained their hold on important systems from the Core to the Outer Rim, thanks to the might of the Imperial Starfleet. Now, with a power vacuum atop the Empire, those Moffs will jockey for position and control, and the heroes of the Rebel Alliance will soon discover that a wounded and fractious Empire may be more dangerous than any threat they faced before!

We’ll see how it all turns out quite soon.

The First look at Ash from the upcoming Evil Dead series

Starz has released the first picture of Bruce Campbell back in action as Ash Williams from the upcoming Ash vs the Evil Dead series. For those of you unfamiliar with Ash, the audience first meets the character in the original Evil Dead (which was quite a dark and disturbing film) in which he is the only survivor. He returned again in Evil Dead 2 (which had a fair amount of humor in it), but in dealing with spirits and demons, one possesses his right hand and he ends up chopping it off and replacing it with a chainsaw. In the third film Army of Darkness (which is incredibly funny) Ash finds himself transported to the past and fighting off an army of the undead. It has been 22 years since Army of Darkness came out and we are anxiously waiting to see what mess Ash will get into this time. We will find out this fall when Ash vs The Evil Dead premieres on Starz.

Creed

The good people over at Warner Bros have released the trailer for their upcoming film Creed. When I first heard about this film, I was very hesitant. To me, it simply seemed as if they were trying to trudge up more money from an aging franchise. After watching this trailer though, I think that they could be breathing new life into that franchise. The trailer very intelligently starts off with the story of a young fighter who is hungry for a title before they eventually reveal who the fighter is. Without spoiling the trailer for you I will say that it is good to see a familiar character return to the screen. See for yourself below:
