New Pics from the Star Wars set

The good people at Latino Review have posted some pictures from the currently filming Star Wars: Episode VII. The set seems to be a rebel base, much like the one on Yavin IV from Episode IV. The Millennium Falcon, along with several X-Wings are pictured. What is of great interest though is the Black X-Wing that is pictured. It has me wondering if that will be Skywalker’s vehicle in the film. In 16 months, I guess I will know the answer. You can view the pictures below.

Duck Tales (with real ducks)

And now, in another moment which reminds us that with all the evil that the internet brings, there are still bright spots in it. Take for example this wonderful gem in which someone had enough free time to recreate the opening of the famous 80’s cartoon Duck Tales with actual living ducks. There are no words to describe the joy this video brought me. I will let you enjoy for yourself. For you added pleasure, I have added the original opening to the show as well. Enjoy.

Arkham Knight Release Date Announced

Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment announced today that they will be releasing the third (and possibly final) much anticipated game in the Batman: Arkham trilogy (yes I’m ignoring Arkham Origins) on June 2nd 2015. Originally the plan was to release the game this fall or winter, but Warner Bros decided to hold off to perfect the game and will be releasing it early next summer.

From my perspective, Arkham Asylum was a breath of fresh air when it came out. It was the perfect mixture of button mashing and incredible story, not to mention that it featured some of the greatest voice acting in history (Kevin Conroy as Batman and the immortal Mark Hamil as the Joker) Years later, Arkham City became the arguably greatest comic book video game in history by expanding the area in which you could play, and by coming up with one of the greatest storylines to grace the video game screen (simply watch the ending of the single player campaign to understand). Arkham Knight boats an even larger map, and the use of the legendary Batmobile. If the trend remains true, this should be the greatest of the Arkham games, as they have improved upon each of the previous entries. But only time will tell; will the third entry be better than the last two? Or will they go the route of so many failed trilogies? We will get our answer in the summer. In the meantime, you can read the whole story here at polygon.

The Tick Returns!

Years ago, I came across a Saturday morning cartoon that inspired me while making me laugh incredibly hard. That show was named The Tick, and its quirky type of humor was way before its time. In fact, I would venture to say that if it had come out today, it would a staple on Cartoon Network’s adult swim. The show was about the Tick, who was a bumbling, but incredibly strong do-gooder who protected the city from such menaces as Chairface Chippendale and El Seed. He did this while wearing a blue tick outfit, and he was helped by his sidekick Arthur, who was a former accountant and wore a giant moth costume. The Tick was also aided by a trio of other superheroes: Die Fledermaus (later changed to Batmanuel for the live action show) , American Maid and Sewer Urchin. Together they formed a ridiculous group of vigilantes protecting the city from evil.

The cartoon was eventually transformed into a live action show, boasting perfect casting with Patrick Warburton playing the titular character; unfortunately the show never quite found its niche, was cancelled and was on its way fading into obscurity. As of a couple days ago, it was announced that the show was being revived again through Amazon with Patrick Warburton reprising his role as The Tick. Will the show retain that quirky brand of humor that made it such a cult classic? Hopefully, but I will definitely be eagerly awaiting its return. Spooooooooon!!

The Top Ten Lightsaber Battles

The staffers at Starwars.com came together to rank the top ten Star Wars lightsaber battles. The battles were ranked by “”inventiveness, choreography and emotional impact”. The results will be no doubt controversial. Here’s what I have to say: as visually pleasing the lightsaber battles are in the newer trilogy, they lack the emotional impact of those in the original trilogy. In Episode IV, you have Obi Wan sacrificing himself to save Luke. It was not an incredibly well choreographed or pretty fight, but it still had an emotional impact. In The Empire Strikes Back, you have padawan Luke Skywalker facing off against a fully trained master in Darth Vader, which ends in one of the greatest movie twists in history, giving the fight an extremely emotional impact. Not to mention the fight contains some of the best cinematography in the series. And in Return of the Jedi, you have Luke facing off with Vader while fighting himself in choosing light or dark. The incredible thing about this fight is that, unlike the showdown between Anakin and Obi-Wan, where Anakin remains remarkably calm and composed while fighting. Luke loses his stuff, he loses all composure; his fighting style is not refined or graceful. He is reduced to wailing on Vader in a pure fit of rage, giving the viewer our first true glimpse of what the dark side actually looks like.

But as I said before, these results will be controversial, so let me know what you think. You can view the results for yourself below:
